I have 17yrs experience in the Retail I.T. industry with Oracle development (incl. RETEK / Oracle Retail v10 to v12) as the key feature.For 7 years I was Owner/Operator of an apparel company and learned business fundamentals. In 1998 I cross-trained to I.T. as a programmer with van Zyl & Pritchard. My first job was as Junior Oracle Developer with Q-Data (now Business Connexion). Over 10years I worked my way to I.T. Manager of a global corporate (Bata Shoes).I have extensive business process knowledge and development experience in retail software for apparel, furniture and food. I have managed major software development projects, hardware rollouts and system replacements. I am able to manage several projects at once and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels especially in translation of business or user requirements to I.T. requirements and vice versa.I spent 10 years as an Oracle technical consultant, employed by Retek (London) and later Online Resources (SA) working on Oracle Retek development and support in South Africa, U.K., France and the U.S.A for global tier 1 retailers such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Argos & Esprit Clothing.As I.T. Manager at Bata for almost 7yrs was I responsible for all ERP systems, electronic communications, data security and software development for the South African company and its regional affiliates. During this time we rolled out POS and merchandizing systems to over 250 stores in 11 African countries, replaced and upgraded major systems. I personally designed and managed the development of an Oracle retail merchandizing system that became the company’s primary system for tracking retail stock and sales. The system took over 3 years to build.I currently work as a developer / project manager at ComputAssist on a COBOL to Java software conversion for dispensing and retail in pharmacies.
