My consulting company allows me to leverage my 36 years of experience in back offices, middle offices, front offices and IT departments in banks of every size to assist banks in optimitizing current operations and processes, finanical reporting and IT interfaces.

I was responsible for overseeing six staff members servicing the Emerging Markets Trading Desk, covering all deal input and maintenance (interest rate swaps, non-deliverable forwards, FX Spot and Forwards, various structured products, dual currency deposits, bonds, securities and FX Options), error investigation, production of daily positions, Profit and Loss and risk statements, preparation and reconciliation of monthly detailed Product Revenue reporting with Financial Control. I worked extensively with the IT group in developing data output improvements which significantly reduced processing times for daily and monthly reporting.

Joined the branch in September 2002 as a consultant to set up a Middle Office, develop and write its process and procedures and have the department up and running by end of 2002. Upon the timely completion of the project, I was asked to stay on to manage the group which consisted of five staff members producing all Trading Room Profit and Loss reconcilements covering Money Market, Foreign Exchange, Currency Options, fixed income products, derivatives and financial futures, brokerage reconcilement and confirmation of all derivative products and exotic currency options. Responsible for preparation and presentation of monthly detailed P&L report for the branch asset & liability management committee.

I was hired as a consultant to assist the Commodity Derivatives Back Office in the installation the ENDUR system, which was their platform for Front, Middle and Back Offices. Project was completed on time and budget. I then assisted the Accounting Department in development of new daily reconciliation and end of month processes needed as a result of the ENDUR installation and extension and improvement of information exchange and reporting with Commodity Derivatives Back Office.

I headed a 14 member team which handled all operational processing and confirmation responsibilities for Derivative Products, Foreign Exchange, Money Market, Repos, the Broker-Dealer Back Office, commercial paper and certificates of deposit issuance and Loan Operations, and any resulting investigations and reconciliation resolution relating to these products, as well as the branch’s credit line limit system. My extensive overhaul of the staff's makeup and the group's processes resulted in a 30% reduction in staff within 18 months of hire, while realizing an increase in volumes across all products of nearly two and a half times within the same period. With this, the group maintained low levels of compensation losses and high levels of both internal and external customer service with the realigned staff and processes.

Managed six member Service Center which handled all operational aspects for Hypo Bank, including Money Market, Derivatives, Foreign Exchange, Paying and Receiving, Investigations and Reconcilements. Involved in research and development of system enhancements and improvement, as well as personally developing Access Database solutions to solve systemic deficiencies. The development of these improvements resulted in the reduction or elimination of manual processes with Foreign Exchange, FRAs, and Interest Rate Swap deals, Trading Room Risk Reporting, Broker Bill Processing and Batch Postings.

Did everything but work in the mailroom here. I started as the Money Market desk positon clerk, moved to the small currency position desk and then the DEM position desk. I then got to get in on the ground floor of the creation of the derivatives area, learning interest rate swaps from their infancy. This eventually led to my heading the derivative back office at Deutsche and being part of the team that travelled from branch to branch installing DB's new Atlas system and training staff in its use. This is where banking turned into a career for me.
