Mark Curtis Mardon is a writer and musician, an elder in environmental and social-justice movements, and an advocate for the philosophy, business, science and art of permaculture as the best way to return to Mother Earth all the nurturing she gives us, and more. He graduated 1981 with a bachelor's in environmental studies and intercultural communications from the School for International Training, part of World Learning (formerly The Experiment in International Living) in Brattleboro, Vermont. A native of Arizona, he worked in San Francisco in the '80s and '90s as an associate editor and staff writer for the Sierra Club's flagship publication, Sierra Magazine. Many years later he delved into the world of permaculture, exploring the scene in the San Francisco Bay Area and northern California, then living and working at Lost Cat Farm, a permaculture demonstration farm in New York's Hudson Valley. He also lived and worked at Mouna Farm Arts and Culture Village on the island of O'ahu, where permaculture is practiced. Mark has a passion for playing the recorder for trees, crops, farm animals, wildlife and people, and believes the sound nurtures us and helps us flourish.
