Key priorities include providing technical expertise for the design, construction and maintenance of the strategic road network and its associated structures, • Technical governance of all schemes in the South West, including development of the forward programme of structures renewals, value management of structures scheme and approval of designs• Liaising and influencing Managing Agents, Designers, and all other Professional Engineers engaged on the structural aspects of Highways England (HE) projects.• Extensive structures advice to other parts of the South West business, including Project Managers, Inspectors and design services consultants employed by HE• Governance for the development of structural renewals for the South West (approximate value £30m per year)• Monitoring of inspection programme for all Highways England structures in the South West • Approval Authority for Severn River Crossings, including assessment, inspection and dehumidification of main cables.• Team leader for the Technical Approval of all Major Projects in the South West. Input into the scheme development of A303 Sparkford to Ilchester, A358 Southfields to Taunton, A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross, and A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down (Stonehenge). Total combined construction cost £2.5billion.• Policy advisor for Highways England, and liaison with ADEPT, for all structures and boundary and ownership matters. • Technical Member for development of DMRB updates, including (currently) BA55, BA35 , BD62 and BD21
