    Following my retirement from ESA, I have taken up an adjunct scientist position at the Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, where I will continue to work on science from the James Webb Space Telescope and hopefully reconnect with ground-based astronomy. I will be working remotely from The Netherlands until we move to Germany later in the spring.

    I work for the European Space Agency, where I am the Senior Science Advisor in the Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration. My role also includes responsibility for communicating the results from ESA's astronomy, heliophysics, planetary, and fundamental physics missions across the scientific community and to the wider general public. Following my PhD in astronomy from the University of Edinburgh in 1988, I have worked in the UK, the US, Germany, and the Netherlands. My personal research interests involve observational studies of the formation of stars and their planetary systems using state-of-the-art ground- and space-based telescopes. I am also an Interdisciplinary Scientist on the Science Working Group for the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope.
