Universal Cycles (part of the Sports Direct group) was one of the largest distributors of bicycles and accessories in the UK. I oversaw the design, technical, and production aspects. My role included:• Designing frames and forks, and compiling specification sheets for each model, making sure that all componentry is compatible.• Ensuring that new products, components, and packaging meets stringent British and European safety standards, initially through in-house testing in our workshop, and then using 3rd party test houses (e.g., Bureau Veritas, SGS, etc). • Ensuring our suppliers comply with various Social, Ethical and Environmental standards required by Universal’s customers (Argos, Tesco, Toy R Us, etc).• Travel to and communicating with our factories and agents based in Asia (China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, etc.).
