Acted in multiple leadership levels in proposing, developing, and providing integrated tactical edge solutions for DoD and IC customers. Championed effort to reduce costs and improve program performance using digital transformation technologies – model driven engineering, in particular. In Chief Engineer, then Principal Investigator role for the Northrop Grumman Integrated Tactical Edge Solutions (NITES) $14M internal research and development effort, demonstrated a pathway to 98% improved efficiency in software deployment times by connecting SysML model to software deployment pipeline. Most recently, working with business unit VP, directors, and tactical edge portfolio of program managers to drive adoption of NITES framework into programs to improve engineering reliability, repeatability, and re-use to realize improved award fee and return on sales.

Involved at several senior levels in the execution of a dynamic & agile satellite ground system development program.In program manager role, manage inter-company work order to provide services to another sector. This includes review & approval of statement of work in collaboration with customer business manager as well as tracking spending & confirming proper billing. In technical subcontract manager role, manage a software development subcontract. Develop & negotiate scope of subcontractor’s statement of work, evaluate basis of estimates in submitted proposals, & monitor subcontractor’s progress in period of performance against the statement of work. Provide system engineering oversight & define scope of subcontractor’s periodic program & technical reviews.In operations products system engineer & operations products architect roles, provide overall technical leadership from design, through development, unit test, integration, & validation to a team of more than a dozen engineers. Includes overseeing & approving the decomposition of the system into optimal architecture & design, appropriate allocation & maintenance of operations requirements, & defining & evaluating technical performance metrics. Implemented the novel application of agile development to the operational products software development. Collaborate across functional organizations to assure operational software products meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Led team of three orbit analysts, through successful satellite launch, commissioning of the spacecraft navigation systems, & orbit-raising campaign. Used specialized tools to perform analysis & generate products related to satellite orbit dynamics. Developed operational products including spacecraft command scripts, mission tasks, & procedures. Provided Orbit Operations Subsystem training to new staff. Provided on-line orbit operations support for spacecraft commissioning, rehearsals, & compliance testing. Spearheaded campaign of on-site verification & validation of flight dynamics tools (e.g. orbit propagation, & station-keeping planning). Presented operational readiness status of the Orbit Operations Subsystem to customer review board.

Performed detailed analysis of spacecraft attitude determination & control algorithms for Safe, Survival, & Accumulated Delta-V Shutdown modes as well as high-fidelity non-linear model of cardinal-stepper motor. Analysis tools & techniques included control system linear stability analyses with Matlab & Simulink, & detailed non-linear system simulation with Fortran. Developed numerous scripts for automating large-volume analytical tasks using Matlab, Windows batch files, & Cygwin AWK/SED.

Authored space to ground-segment interface control document requiring detailed knowledge of digital communications & data transport protocols (CCSDS). Authored orbit maintenance operations concept requiring orbit simulations, data distillation, & coordination of analysis efforts among sub-contractor teams. Developed documentation to control the system-level end-to-end process for upload of data from ground to payload science instrument. Used computer aided orbit analysis software to evaluate impacts of upload operations on science data collection. Coordinated across integrated product teams to produce multi-dimensional cost/benefit/risk analyses for government/customer. Briefed analysis results to a variety of audiences including government/customer & program management.

Involved in the discovery & analysis of novel proteins. Discovery techniques included mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, gel electrophoresis, PCR (for DNA amplification), protein purification, & radioisotope labeling. Developed software in C++ to automate analysis of science data. The utilities generated protein fragment molecular weights, & searched mass spectrometry data for matches. Use of these tools resulted in at least an order magnitude increase in data analysis efficiency.

Provided engineering support for digital & microwave RF signal sources to field sales force. Trained sales engineers in analog & digital modulation. Worked with customer’s engineers to provide solutions to overcome test & measurement obstacles. Created tool to extract & manipulate 3GPP waveforms from Agilent sources for testing pre-distortion power amplifiers. Tool solved customer problem with I/Q modulator that had been plaguing them for over a year. Mentored summer intern through development of interactive software tool that guides customers through signal source option & upgrade selection process – resulted in functional prototype software which was deployed to call centers for beta-testing.

Investigated use of glass as alternative to solder in optical fiber feed-through seals in order to overcome packaging failure modes. Researched & verified material properties of available glasses in laboratory tests. Developed process procedures for creating seals with candidate glasses.

Used CAD tools to generate mechanical drawings used in manufacture & assembly of industrial to hobby-sized weaving looms. Solely responsible for configuration management of mechanical drawings. Improved configuration management by transferring hundreds of velum-paper drawings to electronic CAD files. Designed beater-brake sub-assembly for the Studio Dobby Loom.

Provided engineering support in the area of integrated circuit layout for US Navy Smart Neuromorphic Infrared Focal-Plane Array Small Business Innovative Research program. Trained in design rules associated with CMOS foundry processes. Used computer-aided design tools to transfer electronic schematics into physical device configurations in silicon.

Trained as Fire Direction Controller for Multiple Launch Rocket System. Duties included routine maintenance & operation of command post vehicle comprised of secure digital communications equipment, generators, & specialized computers.
