Duties included the design of microwave ovens mechanical components from conception to 1st mass production. Once a design was complete it was the Engineers responsibility to develop tooling with designated suppliers to reach cost targets set by Sharp. Each year we had to achieve a minimum 5% cost reduction on all existing designs on the final cost price. Sharp Electronics, Wrexham, produced 1.5 million microwave ovens per year.

Responsible for design of the factory layout as the company was newly formed and had no premises when I joined. Design and development of tooling and machines used in the production of rubber paper handling rollers. This included the purchase of all equipment on site such as CNC grinders, compression moulding presses, rubber injection presses and a paint plant. Once the equipment was installed I was responsible for productionising until ready for mass production.
