Maintainer And Lead Developer, Open Banking Connector (.Net)

Current

Cambridge, England, Gb

* Released .NET version of Open Banking Connector (https://github.com/finlabsuk/open-banking-connector) and evolved into fully open-source, cloud-native UK Open Banking client for businesses wishing to consume UK Open Banking APIs* Migrated Open Banking Connector from .NET library to container application delivered via images (https://github.com/finlabsuk/open-banking-connector/pkgs/container/open-banking-connector-web-app) for easy incorporation as a service in a Kubernetes cluster etc.* Went into production with first customer mid-2022* Extended bank integrations to include 10 major UK bank groups (account information APIs) and seven UK bank groups (PISP domestic payments and VRPs)* Continue to maintain product with feature additions and support in production including tracking of bank API updates

Feb 2020 - Present

Founder & Ceo

Cambridge, England, Gb

* Founded Finnovation Labs to, leveraging Open Banking, innovate in building better financial products and services for consumers and businesses * Led development of a prototype personal financial management app for iOS, Mny App (https://www.mnyapp.com/), with innovative personalised transaction auto-classification via on-device machine learning. (Personally designed and implemented machine learning solution and coded much of iOS app (using Swift language and some C) and backend (an AWS-hosted Node-js RESTful API)).* Managed company as CEO including organising fundraises and employing staff/interns.

Senior Developer, Open Banking Connector

Cambridge, England, Gb

* Developed initial version of Open Banking Connector, an open-source Open Banking connectivity library for fintechs and others, in Swift language, with a focus on AISP endpoints* In co-operation with a corporate partner, migrated Open Banking Connector to C# (.NET Core) with a focus on PISP and payments

Jul 2019 - Jan 2020

Senior Algorithms Engineer

Hsin-Chu, Tw

* Worked on CDMA2000 modem design – developed reference channel model, jointly architected and created reference implementation of 1xRTT/EV-DO reverse-link HW encoders (convolutional & turbo), developed pre- and post- simulation scripting for simulator to support automated test vector generation and performance simulation including simulation job submission and results aggregation.* Responsible for development of new RLM module for LTE modem including algorithms, SW/HW partitioning, and performance. RLM is the part of a modem which continually predicts the capacity of the radio link and chooses when to terminate it (when base station is no longer in reach). This work included deriving, developing and simulating both theoretical and practical performance prediction formulas and techniques as well as simulation, analysis and modelling of other modem processing blocks to capture their effect on performance. The new design had to take account of customer requests and field experience and required extensive calibration via simulations. It was adopted in MediaTek’s 2018-generation modem.* Contributed to development of industry (3GPP) reference LTE RLM performance requirements for 4 Rx modems.* Performed many technical studies and made presentations to colleagues on LTE topics including 3GPP 3D MIMO channel model, 3D beamforming and FD-MIMO, enhanced and further enhanced DL-MIMO, DRS channel estimation and interference cancellation, etc.* Participated in mesh networks project* At time of leaving was working on 5G PHY research and standards proposals.* Helped recruit and responsible for supervising summer interns (undergraduates) in our team.

Jul 2012 - Jan 2017

Algorithms Engineer

* Managed eight-person, joint Europe-Asian project developing cell search and measurement (CSM) functionality for TD-SCDMA modem including algorithms and hardware/DSP software implementation. CSM algorithms cover cell acquisition by a mobile device and continuous measurement of cells in device vicinity to enable cell re-selection/handover and supply data to the network. The DSP software required continuous releases to support hardware releases which in turn supported chip tape-out deadlines and FPGA releases (for development platform testing). The full system (SW and HW) also needed continuous releasing for higher layer SW development. Effective testing procedures and release (re-)planning were thus critical. Other challenges included managing performance risks/gate count/software cycles, working with immature development platforms, and design requirement changes - which at one point necessitated a complete SW re-write during two weeks in the company "war room" in Taiwan. The company CEO recognised my efforts on the project during which I also developed a novel frequency offset estimator (patented), interference cancellation algorithms, and sophisticated techniques to balance cell missed-detection and false-detection rates.* Architected, procured, maintained and extended HPC simulation cluster used by teams worldwide for automated and user simulations of LTE (and TD-SCDMA) performance* Designed MIMO propagation channel model used to validate LTE solutionImplemented and fixed-pointed reference model for HW LTE PDCCH and PBCH channel decoder (algorithmic aspects of work produced two patents)* Designed LTE PHICH channel demodulator and decoder including DSP code and HW/SW interface* Created algorithms and reference fixed-point code to support LTE channel estimation - work areas included signal and noise power estimation and unbiasing, frequency- and time-dimension covariance analysis, and handling of beamforming modes mandated by LTE Rel 9.

Mar 2008 - Jun 2012

Dsp/Algorithms Engineer

Chicago, Illinois, Us

Managed seven-person, multi-site project responsible for developing reference LTE PHY simulator to support modem design and performance testing. Simulator included Node B and propagation modelling and was used for modem OFDM/MIMO algorithm development as well as contributions to industry (3GPP) performance requirements.

Aug 2006 - Mar 2008

Research Engineer

Ttp Communications

* Managed three-person project which developed LTE research simulator.* Contributed to HDSPA modem design by implementing candidate demodulation algorithm (adopted), proposing channel estimation improvement (adopted with minor changes).* Designed/maintained HPC cluster of servers for communications simulations.* Monitored technical & industry developments in wireless comms and contributed to regular reports for decision-makers and made internal presentations (e.g. on HSUPA, GSM SAIC)* Was delegate and contributor to 3GPP RAN1 standards committee responsible for mobile phone PHY technology (was present during selection of LTE 4G PHY).* Completed many other technical and commercial projects (Bluetooth 2.0 modulation SIG contribution, EDGE modem make-or-buy assessment, smart antennas project, RF propagation modelling including 2D ray-tracer etc).

Aug 2000 - Jul 2006
