About Mark Nessel

My research focuses on how anthropogenic changes to biogeochemical cycles will alter the structure and function of ecological communities. My Ph.D. thesis included projects utilizing both computational and field techniques to discover the mechanisms governing organismal elemental content, and directly measure how ecological communities respond to nutrient enrichment. Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of ecological projects both nationally and internationally in both laboratory and field settings.
