Project & Portfolio management of early TRL/MRL technology projects. A key role from Jan ’21 is LM’s Project Manager for the research project ‘ZEBRA’, to develop the necessary technologies, material properties and composite processing know-how to manufacture & test two Elium, recyclable thermoplastic wind turbine blades, providing a platform for GE’s important sustainability strategy (circularity) of future wind turbine blades.

Following the transition of the UK team from GE Onshore into the wind turbine blades business ‘LM Wind Power’, I supported the business development of LM’s blade and rotor testing department, which included the pre-acquisition & capability planning of the WMC test facility in The Netherlands. This led to the management of a project to develop and deliver a rotor ‘systems level’ test rig, primarily for the testing of hub pitch bearings on a GE platform. The project included the conceptualisation of the rig, tender process, contract award and management of the project to eventual commissioning at WMC, NL.

Following the acquisition of Blade Dynamics by GE, my role continued to act as PM for the D78 modular blade test (ETI project), followed by management of teams and technology projects as part of GE integration.

Management of manufacturing technology projects within the disruptive start-up business Blade Dynamics (BD) to support innovative ‘modular’ blade designs. This development led to successful commissioning of equipment to support the manufacture of modular blades.From July’12, I held the role of Blade Dynamics’ PM for the business critical, Energy Technology Institute’s funded ‘Very long blade’ project, where BD technology was developed and demonstrated with the design & manufacture of a 78m proof of concept, modular offshore wind turbine blade. The project involved co-ordination of UK / USA based teams, tasks and monthly program stakeholder reporting over 3 ½ years, as well as managing some specific technology developments, such as the LPS (Lightning Protection System) design.

Sponsored under-graduate apprentice at British Aerospace (Airbus) Ltd., with 1 year of work experience/training before a 3 year degree course, followed by 1 year of graduate employment. I really enjoyed working at Airbus, accepting a full time job after completion of the 5 year apprenticeship, where I focussed on developing composite material know-how for future composite wing technology, within Airbus. However, I subsequently decided to leave at the end of 1994 to see the world and pursue my passion of Sailing !
