Research Assistant
Working as part of a design project to scientifically investigate the effectiveness of current wrist/hand orthoses (WHO), and develop a new device for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The development of the project has used 3D anatomical modelling for accurate sizing of structural components for a new WHO. Product development improved skills with 3D scanning and manipulation to digitally record both anatomical data and prototype designs for re-sizing. Software/Software used:Pro/Engineer / CreoGeo-MagicKonica Minolta 9i 3D scannerOhio WIlliowood Tracer CAD 3D scanner/software Project work also included a scientific study into the effectiveness of current wrist/hand othosis design, the results of which will be published at the International Conference for Prosthetics & Orthotics in Hyderabad, India (Feb 2013). The project has already delivered data to the UK Hand Wrist and Shoulder conference (2011) and is currently involved in negotiations with potential industrial partners.
