Mark O’Brien is an Associate Fellow and the Programme Director of the Oxford Healthcare Leadership Programme at the Said Business School at Oxford University. He is also the Programme Director of a large education collaboration at the School - the Oxford University-Dubai Health Leadership Academy. In Australia, he is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Queensland, a Non-Executive Director of St John of God Healthcare Australia and the Chair of the Quality Board of the Italo-Australian Welfare Association. As well as his clinical qualifications he is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an Associate Fellow and Certified Healthcare Manager with the Australasian College of Health Service Management. Previous roles include the Medical Director and co-founder of the Cognitive Institute and International Program Lead for Risk Prevention and International Program Director, Educational Services, for the Medical Protection Society. Previous Non_executive Director roles include Mater Misericordaie Ltd (South-East Queensland) and the Advisory Board of Dietician Connection. Dr O’Brien began life as a rural family physician in Australia forging strong links in post-graduate medical education before co-founding a Risk Management and Leadership Startup that spread its influence to over 17 countries - with an estimated 300,000 healthcare professionals undertaking his face-to-face training courses. His clinical background contributes a strong psychological and relationship understanding to his leadership development work- such that his teaching resonates with audiences from a wide variety of professions such as law, accounting, finance, people management and professional Non-Executive Directors. Mark has had a lifelong passion for improving the quality of leadership development and building high performance cultures of psychological safety using insights into human behaviour and motivation that are acquired through clinical experience. He is a regular national and international speaker on leadership, performance and clinical quality and safety.
