EfW plants divert non-recyclable domestic and commercial waste from landfill to generate electricity via combustion, delivering significant environmental, social, and economic benefits to the community. The IBA produced by EfW plants is processed and recycled by Fortis to recover ferrous and non-ferrous metals and to produce a manufactured aggregate, Fortistone®. Fortistone is a high performing sustainable alternative to primary or quarried aggregate for the construction industry. The metals recovered by Fortis are re-used worldwide to relieve the burden on mass extraction of low yielding virgin metal ores such as copper. The provision of sustainable secondary manufactured aggregate reduces the need for locally sourced quarried aggregate and avoids the import of aggregate from further afield.

A 25 business unit group which designs, manufactures, installs and maintains ventilation, smoke control, climate control and solar shading systems for the built environment in 15 country markets in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. After a review and overhaul of the strategic planning and budgeting processes and strengthening the top two tiers of management, I led a new strategy to focus on the existing geographic footprint and gain greater market penetration in the core businesses. Implementation of the strategy, which had a particular focus on growing Service & Maintenance, gaining full or majority control of all businesses and making acquisitions to drive faster growth led to Service & Maintenance revenues growing over 70% and total organic growth of 28%. Three acquisitions completed including full ownership of the Spanish subsidiary. EBITDA increased by 50% and a sale to Kingspan Plc was successfully completed in April 2020. -
