The role is a varied one involving the planning and overview of production processes including material processing and dispatch, working with downstream customers and also the planning and execution of maintenance and engineering tasks, while liaising with the departmental engineering team and production planners and also ensuring that all tasks are completed while adhering to Health and Safety policies and have minimum impact on production. Communication between upstream manufacturing units and downstream customers is essential to the role and involves departments and companies both across the whole of a very large integrated steelworks and also off site private companies. The role also involves the planning and execution of CAPEX schemes and their delivery on time and on budget.• The successful reorganisation of maintenance regimes on a key piece of equipment reducing unplanned delays.• The modification of parts of a key piece of equipment to allow greater and longer utilisation between maintenance.• The introduction of consumable stores accounting system preventing unplanned production delays.

A role covering the length and breadth of an integrated steelworks managing several teams from different companies with differing objectives and making sure that safety procedures are followed and key performance indicators are met on a shift by shift basis. Responsible for the asset availability of many pieces of heavy industrial equipment including cranes, vehicles and secondary processing machines, coordinating any repairs while adhering to strict safety procedures which involve immobilisation, isolation and permits, at the same time minimising the impact on production. Liaison across site with different departments, to ensure that the down stream customer gets the material required on time, in the required quantities and to specification. Carrying out quality assurance and technical inspections on material and reporting any defects back up the supply chain to allow preventative measures to be taken that will stop a reoccurrence. Identifying, planning and executing Continuous Improvement (C.I.) activities that can be undertaken on shift with minimal support to improve efficiency and safety. Conducting accident/incident investigations including drug and alcohol tests and compiling reports for senior day management for “sharing and learning” and possible use in disciplinary proceedings.• The writing of accident/incident reports that have been identified as “Plant standard” and adopted as a template.• The successful completion of multiple C.I. projects within the department.• Identification of a serious fault with plans for structural work on a crane and subsequent report which save the company many thousands of pounds and prevented a safety issue arising.

As a result of this there was minimum disruption to the regiments operational effectiveness that had elements deployed in several different countries at this time.
