I am a general surgeon and I absolutely enjoy what I do. I Love everything about general surgery. I Enjoy and Love taking care of patients. The most important thing I was taught about surgery is 1. Knowing when to operate and when not to operate, 2. Taking care of the whole patient and not just focusing on the 'surgical' problem. , and 3. Treating patients like they are fellow human beings. I had Great mentors and teachers through my residency and career. Medicine and Surgery is a Lifelong (or at least career long learning process)!I try to treat patients like I would want myself or my family treated. I have seen too many times when patients were not treated kindly. I try to keep my patients informed about their health issues.I am a firm believer that patients should take a role in their own healthcare - ask questions, clarify things they don't understand, seek help from healthcare providers they can trust. It makes for s better patient-doctor relationship if the patient is an active participant. It is frustrating when patients don’t involve themselves in their own health care. I/ we as physicians are limited in what we can do when patients think doctors can fix everything without the patients active participation.I try to explain things and make sure patients understand their health problem(s). I try to explain things so that patients can understand their health condition, the surgery needed, and the recovery process.My goal is to take care of my patients like they are family. Like fellow human beings.I also have a goal to help patients help themselves!
