About Mark Packer

Since Feb 2014 Green Shoots has been working with H M Prison Dartmoor to establish a mushroom growing project.The aim is to provide meaningful work experience, training and marketable skills to enable older prisoners coming to the end of their sentences to find employment. The Oyster Mushrooms are grown in unused cells, converted by the prisoners . In line with Green Shoots sustainability ethos, the mushrooms are grown on used coffee that would normally have gone straight to landfill. The mushrooms are currently being sold to caterers and the public in the Dartmoor area. In April 2015 with the support of the prison management team at H M Prison Eastwood Park , we opened our second mushroom growing project. Unlike the project in Dartmoor we are not growing the mushrooms in prison cells, but in a converted shipping container which the female prisoners helped to convert. We are growing gourmet Oyster Mushrooms for award winning of restaurants, coffee shops and grocers in the local area.
