Simple Sites is an online portfolio management tool for artists, which allows users to create a professional, self-managed website in just a couple of hours. As the name suggests, the focus is on simplicity and ease of use, whilst still providing a high level of functionality, including mailing lists, custom domain names, multiple galleries and a variety of customisable themes.

What’s On was originally developed as a platform to showcase a proprietary push technology, but quickly evolved into a stand alone business and eventually became one of SA’s most popular entertainment websites. Unfortunately, like many event based businesses, it was a casualty of Covid, and closed for good in 2020.

The D6 School Communicator is an innovative platform for schools to communicate with parents. It allows parents to customise the information they received from schools, based on their children's grade and extra curricular activities. I was responsible for the development of both the client facing applications, as well as the background business systems, including a custom banner server, custom CRM tool and an integrated support desk. Today there are over 2,500 schools around the world using the School Communicator. I sold my shares in the School Communicator in June 2013.

D6 was initially a bespoke technology that emulated push communication in a desktop environment. The pseudo push software allowed for a variety of applications that made use of live updates. Clients included The Mail & Guardian (Desktop NewsFlash), Finance24 (Live index tracker & real-time exchange rate calculator), and MTN. The technology was later used to power the School Communicator, which evolved into a stand alone product and business.

Ran the Stonewall studio and later managed the rollout of the new Siemens SA website.

In January 1999 I started Maverick, a digital media agency, specialising in interface design. Clients included Old Mutual, Independent Newspapers, Liberty Life, ABSA, IOL, GQ, Research Surveys, RedBull, J&B and MWeb. Notable projects included a live data screensaver, using proprietary technology to manage data transfer & storage, CickOff, an online spot-the-ball competition, an online scratch card (which registered 200,000 ‘scratches’ in the first 48 hours) and a drop-and-drag “create your own pizza” competition for MWeb & Debonairs.

Although I was employed as a copywriter, I spent most of my time at Tinderbox consulting. Clients included Old Mutual, First National Bank, Mercedes Benz & Dimension Data.

Electric Ocean was one of South Africa’s first dedicated digital agencies. My responsibilities were varied and evolved with the medium. Notable projects included the 2004 Olympic Bid site and the Child Welfare site, for which I won a Gold Loerie in 1997.

Ran the Syfrets Marketing Studio and was responsible for all below-the-line marketing and internal communication for the Syfrets Group.

Responsible for a wide range of internal & external communications, including brochures, tactical ads, corporate videos, and speech writing. I was also part of the group task team that developed the initial strategy document for the Old Mutual Group's website and related internet projects.
