Then, Maximize your processes. It sounds simple however what I see over and over again is that executives and leaders think they know their people but they don't. And then the processes that they use to get the work done are ill-fitting for the people performing them - preventing them from really improving and scaling productivity. But it doesn't have to be this way. People First Operations comes alongside leaders and managers to show them a better way - to really know their people and then use those learnings to really REALLY improve their processes.

In this role, I managed and led the efforts of bringing the BlackPearl into existence and then to market, leading engineering and development first and then working with all of the business teams for go-to-market efforts.- I lead the engineering team (10-12 direct reports at it's peak), specified the product requirements for v1, v2, and v3. Worked with our chief architect in design and implementation efforts. Coordinated with other engineering teams as needed.- BlackPearl clients & SDK team - I managed this team for ~1 year & was very excited to promote the team leader to be the team manager in the summer of 2015. We created Spectra Logic’s first open source project hosted on GitHub & spent tons of time with BlackPearl partners, software integrators, & customers for optimal product market fit. Senior Software Engineer reporting to the Sr. Director of Emerging Markets. In this capacity, I was part of a terrific team working on researching and developing new data storage systems. I worked in prototype development, performed in Go and Ruby, to flesh out product concepts for new markets for Spectra Logic. We were able to invent and prototype Spectra Logic’s BlackPearl, which has become one of Spectra Logic's most valuable products. I was then asked to take BlackPearl thru the official product build-out.Other research projects in this role included:- AWS S3 server prototyping for BlackPearl and - Hadoop- Glustre and Lustre distributed filesystems- Ceph/Rados

I worked on new development of host side firmware for Dot Hill's storage products. The development projects included paged storage/thin provisioning, new commands to enable tighter integration with VMware, as well as other protocol development projects to enable better storage virtualization.

Lead a 4 person team in the development and maintenance of the FICON (mainframe) interfaces within the Brocade enterprise level Fibre Channel switch/director product set, which is based on the 2.6 linux kernel. The scope of this work included the code responsible for the control unit port (CUP) operation on each switch (virtual and physical), interfaces to GUI management utilities, and FC management server layer functions (including RNIDs, RLIRs, LIRRs, etc), all of which is used heavily in mainframe customer environments.

Principle level software engineering position in architecting, designing, and implementing the FICON Control Unit Port interface in McDATA's enterprise level SAN directors and switches.

Continuous engineering on the Symmetrix Enterprise disk array. This position's responsibilities were managing, maintaining, and improving the Fibre Channel interfaces both internal and external to the Symmetrix disk array. This involved interoperation with many vendors HBA's, directors, and switches (such as qLogic, Emulex, JNI (Jaycor), McDATA, Brocade, Vixel, Cisco, etc).

As an embedded firmware engineer, I implemented a test device known as the "trick disk" which allowed us to inject disk errors back into the RAID controller that was being tested. The interface to this trick disk was a menu driven interface which I also wrote.
