Re-built CDC’s Direct Equity investment business from scratch, combining commercial rigour with a strong focus on development impact. Invested c. $2.5bn, exceeding return and development targets.Also sat on Executive Committee and all investment committees. Investment rate rose from c.$350m p.a. to $1.5bn p.a., staff from c. 40 to c.300 and shareholder made an additional $5bn capital commitment (doubling balance sheet).Specific actions included:- Provided strategic vision and leadership; - Recruited, managed and coached a high performing International team of over 70 investment professionals; - Established investment processes and development frameworks;- Directed pro-active investment targeting, guided execution and oversaw portfolio management. - Established extensive networks (including the ‘Africa list’)- Pioneered new $500m+ Impact Investment capability Portfolio of c.50 Companies includes:- Power: Globeleq - Control investment in Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest independent Power Company; Ayana - created a renewable power developer for the poorest regions of South Asia- Financial Institutions: IIFL, RBL, Equitas and Utkarsh supported to become publicly quoted banks- Healthcare: Rainbow Hospitals: Mutli region expansion to become India’s leading and award winning Women and Children’s Hospital chain; Largest institutional investor in Narayana one of three biggest hospital chains in India (now publicly quoted); JV with HCG for cancer care in Africa- Telecoms: Liquid Telecom - Pan-African internet & mobile phone backbone provider- Agriculture: Zambeef - Largest investor in Zambia’s leading agribusiness; Feronia - a turnaround in remote DRC; several agri-businesses in Malawi; forestry in Sierra Leone - Real Estate: Onomo - Pan-Africa business hotels; ALP - A grade warehousing platform- Pioneering Impact investments including M-Kopa, Bridge Academies, Virunga, Africa Improved Foods, 14 Trees, Unicaf

One of the founding Partners of an Emerging Markets Private Equity firm that grew Funds under management to over US$5bn. Roles included:- Member of all investment committees (PE, Infrastructure & Property in Africa, India, China and Latin America) with a hands-on advisory role for larger/more challenging deals;- Headed/turned around the China team which became one of the best performing funds, - Headed the 'legacy assets' fund delivering strong returns from a portfolio of over 100 investments, - Led the Consumer businesses team, identifying several outstanding investments- Led and worked on investments in several regions - delivering consistently strong returns- Led training and development programmes - Advised on organisational change projects

Established an in-house Private Equity Fund addressing the UK SME market (Barclays Ventures). Led the investment side of the business, initially in London, before building and leading regional teams - in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham. N.B. Initially joined Barclays through their graduate Management Development Programme. Following this I was Seconded to Baronsmead Private Equity Fund (now LivingBridge), which managed a PE fund for Barclays.
