I am researching better ways to make the melanin that PPT produces to put in sunglass lenses. It absorbs UV very strongly, and also protects against violet and blue light [aka High Energy Visible], which can cause damage in older eyes.

ICE-GRIPPING PLASTICS PRESS RELEASE OUT: See the story at http://www.utsa.edu/today/2014/11/icegrips.html ] I have designed and am seeking commercialization of some plastics designed to hold onto ice. The purpose of these is to make shoe soles and tires that will not slide on ice and thus keep the user safe from accidents. It is likely that the invention will excel at gripping the so-called “black” ice, the least visible and most dangerous type, which forms from freezing rain or by the freezing of standing water on pavement. A prototype polymer was prepared and worked [coefficient of friction > 0.7], so the concept was seen to be sound. With the assistance of The University of Texas at San Antonio, and my business partner Tom Hibler, a company, Ice Grips, Inc. was formed to commercialize the polymers, which are protected under U.S. Patent 7195799.After obtaining a Master’s degree in chemistry at Vanderbilt University under J. C. Martin, I worked at G. D. Searle & Co. for six years in drug discovery, then 3 ½ years at ILEX Oncology (drug discovery and pilot plant production). After that I worked at The University of Texas at San Antonio as a lecturer, then entered their (then new) Ph. D. program and obtained my degree in August 2011. I worked for 5 years at PhotoProtective Technologies [melaninproducts.com]. I am now focusing on invention development.
