To know who I am today needs a little history. I failed in the classroom; I succeeded in the workplace. What happened to me can happen to anyone. I left the corporate world in my mid 30’s. My last role was commercial responsibility for an overseas business unit of a Fortune 100 company. I left school at 16 in a Northern England industrial town with no qualifications, no vision, no idea what I’d do.I was lucky and got into an entry-level job, in a company and industry and then a career pathway that matched the way my brain liked to work. I didn’t know it at the time, it was years later I discovered modern neuroscience which connected the dots for me. Looking back, I can see that the most successful periods of my career were jobs that matched my brain. When I was least successful, found the work hard, and demotivating, well, those jobs did not match the way my brain worked. The only business wins I ever really cared about were people results, not business results, although I quickly recognized that one drives the other. When I lost my job through a re-structure, my first instinct was to save the jobs of as many of my people as possible, placing others before myself was an instinctive thing for me, which means it was my brain driving the behavior, I have to give credit to my brain. Losing my job enabled me to pursue my passion for people. I have started up several people development companies and services, internationally. It was on this journey that I was fortunate to find the world class neuroscience assessment which I am privileged to bring to the United States. Once I discovered neuroscience, I instantly recognized a way that I can truly connect with, and impact people’s lives. Learning how our brain works (which is different for every brain) has a lifetime benefit. My mantra is this: “You are not your brain”. Once we treat our brain as separate from us and allow it to lead the way, it changes perspectives. Your brain becomes your career coach, wise mentor, a performance coach, a best friend, and a compass. I apply my energy into projects that eliminate stress in the workplace, that break down barriers to high skilled jobs, that craft career pathways with purpose and that enable students and learners to approach a future of uncertainty, fearless and confident, and that treats everyone as equal, no matter education level (like me!), or background.
