Becoming a software engineer never crossed my mind.But the art of writing software where my imagination comes to life and my creativity comes out of my fingertips resonated within me more than any career I can imagine.While finishing my mechanical engineering degree, I decided to learn as much as possible about programming. I extended my graduation date to allow an extra year of enrolling in programming courses.At home, I experimented with programming Arduino's and different evaluation microcontroller boards from Microchip, Texas Instruments and STMicroelectronics. Eventually, I built a 3D-printed drone and wrote all the firmware for it. I got to take my college knowledge home and have fun tinkering with electronics for days.After graduation, I worked for over 2 years as a controls engineer programming robotic palletizing systems. I quickly grew in my position and worked on large and challenging custom projects. I always made it my goal to program every UI and functionality to provide ease of use to operators.Controls engineering was fun but I missed programming in C/C++. I attended PSU online after work to continue my professional education in software engineering.Eventually I achieved my goal of becoming a software engineer when I accepted a job at Intel to write software for Ethernet debugging/testing tools.
