Private psychology practice incorporating applied neuroscience and psychotherapy. In particular, quantitative EEG assessment, EEG neurofeedback (operant conditioning of brainwave activity) and HEG neurofeedback (operant conditioning of cerebral blood flow) were used in combination with behaviour management strategies, counselling, psychoeducation, CBT, mindfulness training, etc. Mark worked with a variety of presenting problems, with a particular focus on the autistic spectrum and associated developmental and behavioural disorders. He also developed and presented training materials for psychologists wanting to add neurofeedback to their practices, as well as developing school-based neurofeedback programs. A neurofeedback pilot project that Mark initiated at Hervey Bay Special School in 2004 produced a 64% reduction in autistic behaviour in the classroom for the target group in one school term. The program won the 2004 Showcase Award for Excellence in Innovation (Education Queensland Regional Winner) and the 2005 Commonwealth Award for Outstanding National Achievement in School Improvement (Federal Dept of Education and Training), including a $20,000 grant to continue the program. I have trained psychologists and educators in a number of regions in Queensland, as well as providing online supervision for professionals in Australia and overseas.Furthermore, Mark developed a remote neurofeedback program that allowed for offsite monitoring of clients by psychologists and had his own remote clientele from around Australia and overseas. In conjunction with the above, Mark also developed online symptom tracking software that allowed for the accurate monitoring of neurofeedback sessions and graphing of symptom severity across sessions. I presented at numerous conferences, support groups and training events during this time.

Provision of neurofeedback services for Family Challenge, an organisation that provided mental health services in Australia and the developing world, with a particular focus on the rehabilitation of child soldiers in African states.

The Regional Disability Council was appointed by the Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors to provide advice on a broad range of issues affecting people with a disability and their families at a local and regional level.

This position involved the development of a database of children’s health services on the Sunshine Coast. Duties included liaising with government and non-government paediatric health care providers, gathering information on all appropriate services, conducting meetings of key stakeholders, reporting regularly to the Director of Paediatrics at Nambour General Hospital, data entry of information gathered, and design and production of the database and website.

Case management of children with intellectual disabilities and their families, as well as adults with intellectual disabilities living in government funded accommodation. Duties included counselling, family support, providing support to care staff in adult accommodation facilities, designing and implementing behaviour management plans, liaising with other service providers/government departments, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing referral services.

Mark was largely involved in preparing for publication a new international journal dealing with the psychology of children’s mathematical thinking and learning processes. The job involved liaising with authors from around the world and assisting them to prepare their material for publication in Mathematical Thinking & Learning: An International Journal.
