This placement wit Coventry City Council is at the Project Manager/Strategic Traffic Coordinator, trying to keep Coventry in business while £350m of highway infrastructure is carried out in the City over the next years. The role involves coordinating the planned traffic management programmes, managing enablement works, resilience measures and monitoring scheme progress.

My placement was as Traffic and Notices Officer for Coventry City Council, coordinating planned & reactive highway maintenance work with other statutory undertakes and writing legal orders and notices.In addition to my work placement I also carry out Road Safety Audits as required for Waterman Aspen.

Project Managing the provision of materials and equipment for use by the Traffic Management Contractors and other LOCOG staff and Functional Areas at competition and non-competition venues. This included acting as the primary contact with the Main Contractor providing the equipment, monitoring and controlling the equipment spending and budget. Devising and disseminating procedures and specifications related to traffic management equipment and materials. Providing advice on numerous traffic management and parking issues to other LOCOG staff and functional areas.Documents controller for the completed Local Area Traffic Management Plans for all competition and non-competition venues associated with the London 2012 Olympic Games. This was to ensure that all parties who needed to refer to the various documents which made up these plans were using the current versions and were able to use theme 24 hours a day.Traffic Management and Parking Duty Manager in the Transport Operational Control Centre during Olympic and Paralympic game time. Dealing with any issues arising in connection with the traffic management and parking around the games competition and non-competition venues. This issues ranged from arranging for financial provision for the provision of staff and materials not originally planned for prior to the games time and dealing with other issues around the traffic management staff deployed at the various London 2012 locations, 24 hours a day throughout the operational phase of the Olympic and Paralympic games.

Carried out approximately 800 Road Safety Audits with TMS Consultancy. Schemes audited have ranged from minor improvement schemes, pedestrian crossings, new development access roads, traffic signal junctions, roundabout junctions, area wide traffic calming schemes, a helicopter landing site and new bypass schemes in both UK and Ireland.Responsible for detailed accident investigation and prevention (AIP) studies, within the UK, Ireland and Iceland. Many studies involved the production of preliminary and detail design of the remedial measures identified in AIP Studies.Responsible for carrying out Safety Assessments and Risk Assessments including Safer Routes to School, Work Place Transport Assessments, designing traffic management schemes and home zones.Carrying out on-scene vehicle crash research including interviewing drivers and casualties and recording and analysing data.
