As president of Luminys it is my mission to encourage education and entrepreneurship, to bridge cultures, and to improve the world through technology. 1. I passionately believe in education and entrepreneurship. It is a privilege for me to serve as a judge for the Beall Student Engineering Competition at the Samueli School of Engineering at UCI; and to serve as a coach, mentor and review panelist for the Stella Zhang New Venture Competition at the UCI Merage School of Business. 2. Through the work of Luminys in the nonprofit sector, I am able to make a direct impact on organizations and initiatives supporting public health, healthcare, education, children, mental wellness, LGBTQ, women's advocacy, and food security. 3. I am a technology optimist who sees technology as a means, not an end. I see the potential of AI to accelerate solving huge problems in economics, genetics and healthcare; I see social media as a giant experiment multiplexing a billion brains; and I am continually amazed that my children have instant access to the world’s knowledge in their back pocket wherever they go.4. Our world is an amazing place, full of beautiful and amazing cultures, religions, peoples, and food. I have a fascination with language, which led me to study Mandarin, Japanese, and now Vietnamese.My Background:- In 1982 I delivered newspapers on my bike to earn money to purchase a Commodore 64.- In college, I worked for an actuarial consulting team at Towers Perrin building spreadsheets, Monte Carlo simulations and programming models.- At Future Domain I developed BIOS firmware for our SCSI controller chipset that interfaced with hard drives and other peripheral devices; I later moved to marketing where I worked with the president and did business development throughout the PC industry with a lot of work in Japan. - At Phoenix Technologies I led the Strategic Development Group. I sat on industry boards for USB and other interconnect technologies, helped identify specific opportunities and was assigned to work with an executive team to acquire silicon design firms and take those designs to market globally.- In 1998 I joined internet startup FutureTouch as an early-stage partner and Vice President of Marketing. We developed the first drag-and-drop online web design tool, acquired by GeoCities/Yahoo!. - In 2002 I founded Luminys, which provides website design and hosting, web strategy, and technology advisory services.
