Acted as unifying point of contact within ETU for technology development, supporting defense and intelligence programs. Developed and executed an overall strategic plan for ETU defense and intelligence and in a cross-Institute role to drive the development of collaborative efforts between business units at RTI. Technical efforts included: programmatic management of technology development and demonstration programs; sensor elements and systems; Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT); unintended signal exploitation; new signal exploitation of high value systems; and commercialization efforts.

Provided technical and management leadership for combined research team with FY05 annual external revenue budget of $2.7 million/year. Developed strategic plan, consisting of core intellectual property thrust areas and growth into new business areas, including classified and biomedical work. Division emphasis was on signal capture, analysis, and exploitation for Measurement and SIgnature Intelligence and Electronic Intelligence. Was Principal Investigator on programs for the areas of sensors for vehicle sensing, classification and identification; sensors for distributed robotics; and quick reaction projects for the Defense Department.

Beaverton, Oregon

Researched and developed plasma addressed liquid crystal flat panel display technology, including collaboration with Sony Corporation on Plasmatron 25-inch TV. Responsibilities included device physics experiments, theoretical analysis, lifetime testing and failure analysis, optics, electronics design, substrate design, and intellectual property development. Optics included laser design, nonlinear optics, UV/vis spectroscopy, photon counting, imaging, and colorimetry. Co-invented eight U.S. PTO and foreign patents. Wrote business plan for biotechnology company as part of business development effort. Part of team which briefed senior management at Sony on experimental results.

Middlebury, Vermont

Taught physics courses including Introductory Mechanics, Advanced E&M, and Quantum Mechanics. Supervised more than a dozen undergraduate theses, summer projects and independent projects. Completed a revision of the mechanics laboratory manual, and developed and taught two new courses: Biophysics, and Time Keeping. Built from components, operated and performed experiments with a Q-switched, synchronously pumped, mode-locked Nd:YAG laser on systems such as C-60 and phenomenology such as thermal lensing.
