Shortlisted for the Safety and Health Excellence Awards 2024 Unsung Hero Award, Mark is a highly proactive Health and Safety professional whose working practice is based on problem solving and finding pragmatic solutions to safety issues. He strongly believes in working collaboratively with people to help them find solutions to health and safety problems. In his current role Mark advises and supports museums across the Northern sites of the Science Museum Group, supporting day-to-day operations across 4 sites, as well as providing support to multiple construction projects across the sites he supports, looking at how these projects interface with museum operations. The diverse nature of the business, and of the on-site working that the Group undertakes means that Mark has developed a substantial range of health and safety experience.Previously, he has worked for an international animal feed manufacturer, supporting the business with specialist considerations associated with that industry, including DSEAR, internal transport and heavy equipment safety. Mark also worked for the HSE for a period in a policy advisor role with the Building Safety Regulator, supporting the Interim Industry Competence Committee, in particular representing the HSE at various groups looking at competence within the built environment with a steering towards fire safety.He began his safety career ensuring day to day integration and management of Health and Safety systems for the Science Museum Group and issuing appropriate advice to northern sites and railway operations. He has also worked in several other fields, which has given additional confidence and authority to the advice he gives and has helped him to develop the management systems he works with.
