Mark has had extensive experience with student travel. Early in his career, he traveled throughout the United States and Canada serving as brass caption head with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition, he has designed performance trips for his own musical groups to such international destinations as Canada; Denmark; Italy; England, Norway; and most recently Costa Rica. Domestic performance travel with his groups have included trips to such destinations as Chicago, New York city, Washington D.C., Boston, Honolulu, Hawaii, Wisconsin and Iowa! Mr. Running has a Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education from Northwestern University, and an additional Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Loyola University Chicago. Leadership positions that Mark has held have included Sinfonietta Bel Canto (opera and chamber orchestra) Vice President, the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) District VII President, ILMEA District IX Charter (founding) President, Northwestern University School of Music Alumni Board President, and Loyola University Chicago Cohort Facilitator. In addition, Mark has also been published in the Barron’s publication “AP Music Theory” test preparation text. Mark also continues to serve as a judge for the Illinois Grade School Music Association District 8 Junior High School Organizational Concert and Jazz Band contests. Recently, Mark received the prestigious “Citation of Excellence” from the National Band Association for excellence in band performance, and state recognition by being presented with the state award of the “Mary Hoffman Award of Excellence” for excellence in music education from the Illinois Music Education Association.
