Axis operates in the Support Services sector, focusing on Security and Cleaning services. It has £85m revenue and employees more than 4,000 people. The Group is owned principally by the Private Equity company Sovereign Capital Partners. During my time in the role, the business grew by almost 50% and yet I reduced the cost of the finance function by 20%. I negotiated new banking terms and reviewed refinancing options. I also took over responsibility for a failing HR team and turned it into a strong support to the business.

Shanks UK is a £175m revenue division of the Shanks Group. I was responsible for a team of over 60 finance and ICT professionals. During my time in this role, working capital improved by over £10m, profits more than doubled, substantial improvements were made to the ICT infrastructure, a strong finance team was put in place,major improvements made in the management of the operational PFI contracts and the business attained clear strategic direction.

As CFO I was responsible for a team of over 30 finance and ICT professionals. During my time in the role the business invested over €60m in infrastructure and acquisitions. I produced all Board papers and developed the strategy. I implemented full risk appraisal and internal audit systems and implemented a new consolidation system.

During my time in this role I was heavily involved in the acquisitions, disposals and PFI contracts. In particular, the disposal of the landfill business for £227m and the £1.2bn ELWA PFI contract, witha funding requirement of £138m. I was also responsible for the running a team on 16 accountants and consolidation of budgets, forecast and strategy.
