About Mark Schermers

There is commercial value for brands that deviate from the norm. What is your brand doing that is either strange or startling? Mark is a CMO, marketer, entrepreneur, and former advertising-exec with 20+ years experience working at the intersection of creativity and business. He has worked with some of the world's most dynamic brands and startups including Adidas, Converse, L’Oréal, Sprint, Nissan, Unilever, Kayak, and the NBA. Having worked on both sides of the brand/agency spectrum it became clear there wasn’t a resourceful partner model for start-ups and scale-ups that need help connecting the dots between strategy, ideas and implementation. As a solution, Mark founded Strange or Startling.Strange or Startling blends brand strategy, design, storytelling, PR, partnerships and performance marketing to provide a unique vision - and the necessary support and infrastructure - to undertake building a 21st Century Brand. From managing established brands to unlocking the potential of D2C startups, Strange or Startling has experience helping brands to succeed in the changing retail, tech and media landscape. Having lived in 7 countries across 5 continents, Mark has a unique international perspective. He has previously held leadership roles at creative agencies including Anomaly, GSP and 180. He also led marketing at several startups including AETHER Apparel, Mijenta Tequila, Sunday Goods, and previous to that as President and CMO of Storelli, a now-Adidas-backed sports apparel startup. Mark also serves as a board advisor and consultant for early-stage startups.
