During my senior year at college I made Governor Jimmy Carter's Intern Program and prepared a population and housing projection for the Cobb County Planning Department.After college there was a recession so I worked as a night manager at a H Salt Fish & Chips; Proof Department at First Georgia Bank then moved back to the Washington D.C. area. I was a medical claims examiner for the Joseph Jones Agency and Mutual of Omaha. From there I was offered a position with Crawford and Company as a Property and Casualty Adjuster. They moved me to Las Vegas, NV where I got actual field experience and was assigned to oversee the workers comp accounts. I was a contracted investigator for the Nevada Aid To Certain Victim of Crime program and the adjuster for the Metropolitan Police Department.After taking a break to drive a cab, I went back to Crawford and Company and my work there led me to becoming the first Safety Administrator for the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel which at the time was the worlds largest hotel. That lead to becoming the first Safety Engineer at the Riviera Hotel and from that I joined Cashman Equipment Company, the Nevada Caterpillar dealer and Cashman Cadillac. In time I became the corporate Risk Manager responsible for OSHA compliance, MSHA, Fire Department and EPA compliance, was a certified MSHA instructor. Prepared and presented safety classes to employees and assisted in taking the company's workers comp program from a state run program to self-insured/self administrated. Oversaw the placement of the company's business insurance and I was also appointed by Governor Bob Miller to two terms with the Nevada Self Insured Subsequent Injury Board.After a successful run at the Cashman companies, I joined Custard Claims and Risk Management to solicit workers compensation clients and oversee the accounts. Due to a death in the family and the failing health of a parent in Maryland , I left Custard to attend to family and estate matters for the next 12 years, spending 2-4 months a year in Maryland.
