-Investigated the protein-protein interaction of Actin and one of its regulators, Cofilin, to determine their role in the preservation of memory in the dendritic spines of neurons.-To that end, produced fluorophore-protein DNA plasmids using standard molecular sub-cloning techniques, which included the generation of bacterial cultures expressing these DNA.-Prepared LB broth and cell-culture mediums using asceptic techniques such as flaming, use of BSC hood and laminar flow hoods.-Maintained and propagated HEK-293 and NIH cell lines, constantly transfecting these with the generated fluorophore-protein DNA constructs, monitoring their expression daily.-Was also responsible for the dissection and isolation of hippocampal slices from rat pups, subsequently transfecting these with fluorophore-protein DNA.-Routinely used analytical techniques such as PCR, SDS-PAGE, and spectrophotometry to aid in the investigation, including the operation of a 2-photon microscope for Fluorescent Lifetime Imaging (FLIM) analysis.-Periodically assisted the lab manager in maintaining the lab well-supplied and kept records in lab notebooks, routinely reporting to the Principal Investigator.-Assisted Graduate and Summer Students in experiments when required.

Elegans nematode as a biological model, investigated the effect of performing an RNAi- knockdown on an enzyme known to regulate the proper membrane-to-cytoplasm internalization of proteins required for proper development of the embryos.-Demonstrated problem-solving skills by setting-up appropriate conditions for crossing two different strains of nematodes for the generation of a doubly-homozygous strain required for RNAi experimentation, and used appropriate technology such as PCR and Gel Electrophoresis to amplify and separate/detect, respectively, obtained recombinant DNA from the offspring of the aforementioned crossings.-I displayed patience and quick learning by learning correct aseptic technique when handling laboratory samples for analysis. -Showed confidence and enthusiasm when I presented my findings in a formal poster presentation session.

Project Title: Development and Optimization of the Core-Shell design and Inverse Core-Shell design of Quantum Dot Sensitized Solar Cells (QDSSC) -Demonstrated team work by collaborating alongside colleagues in optimizing the concentration of ionic species precursors in Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD) of CdS sensitizers onto TiO2 surfaces, including several lab meetings to discuss the progress and relevance of results.-Showed patience and the ability to learn quickly by adopting a new technique, Single Ionic Layer Adsorption Reaction (SILAR), as a streamlined version for deposition of PbS sensitizers onto surfaces-My ability to interpret results in a timely manner and glean conclusions from these was realized by handling several photoelectrochemical spectra files in the course of one week.
