Responsible for all hard and soft services at our Bolton Head Office. Stepped out of the Office services Manager role and full time into Facilities in 2003, where the new challenges and disciplines of FM were a real eye opener. The diversity of the role and potential to see a visible improvement to the working lives of my colleagues and to be the one to help make that difference is inspiring and very rewarding. I undertook Facilities foundation training with the once BIFM, now the IWFM, and then office design and space planning, business continuity, specialist fire, health and safety, risk assessment and numerous other training courses. I was made an Associate of the business in 2008. Experience teaches you many things but I am still pleasantly surprised by the diversity and nature of the role, still challenging, still rewarding. My more specialised skills would include office planning, fit out and the physical moves of staff between new and existing office spaces. My mastermind chosen subject would be the Discworld novels of the much missed Sir Terry Pratchett.

Started at Keoghs handling incoming mail and distribution between the ever increasing number of offices in Bolton. Developed better contract management skills and people skills as the business rapidly grew and became team leader in 1998. Eventually managed a team of 10 people across 6 sites dealing with all areas of mail, stationery and print, reprographics and logistics. Started handling some areas of facilities management alongside my role as office services manager and was then managing a team of 24 including maintenance and cleaning staff. Following the retirement of the then FM I stepped full time into the Facilities assistant role in 2003 and became Facilities manager in 2006.

Left dentistry to try and develop a more professional career in finance and insurance. Dealt with sales and financial advise with regard to Life assurance, savings, pensions and mortgages. I also handled both car and home insurances.

After school went straight into dental work, quite by chance, and developed what was a natural flair. Casting to wax modelling, then chrome and acrylic work for new dentures. Mixed both NHS and private client work including making the teeth for the late great Jim Bowen of Bullseye fame!
