I worked as a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher in a private language school, a local kindergarten and also as a private tutor for local residents. I taught children from the ages of 3-19 years old, from complete beginner to upper intermediate level. My main role was to devise appropriate lesson plans and deliver those lessons to enhance and compliment the English language skills the children learnt in their mainstream schooling. I also tutored adults in business English, western culture, and presentation skills. In addition to classroom teaching I was responsible for writing the students monthly progress reports and also their weekly tests. I interviewed and assessed new students in order to place them in the appropriate class and tailor lessons to meet their educational needs. I also took part in extra-curricular activities outside of school time to help further develop the students conversational English skills and deeper understanding of cultural differences.

During my two years at TC Power I worked as an offshore emissions testing technician operating in all sectors of the North Sea. After completing my BOSIET offshore and emergency training I carried out emissions tests on numerous gas and oil platforms, and ships throughout the North Sea as part of a baseline emissions survey for DECC (Department of Energy and Climate Change). This was to determine future emissions limits for the offshore oil and gas industry. This role involved an element of office, laboratory and site work. In particular I had to prepare and check the testing equipment extremely thoroughly to pass very strict offshore equipment inspections. While working offshore I worked under a strict permit system in accordance with the offshore industry health and safety standards. In addition to my offshore work I also carried out numerous onshore emissions test in a wide range of industries.

I worked as an MCERTS air quality and emissions testing technician for this large environmental consultancy for nearly ten years. This involved office, laboratory and site work. I worked all over the UK and Ireland serving a large customer base in a diverse range of industries. My main role involved equipment and chemical preparation, in house calibration, on site testing, preparing site specific reviews and protocols, method statements, and report writing. I liaised with and advised customers on technical and health and safety issues using my NEBOSH qualification and on site experience. I worked both in a support and team leading role. I carried out emissions tests using isokinetic, multi-phase and instrumental techniques to UKAS standards. The majority of this work was compliance testing, but also fuel and abatement trials and particulate monitor commissioning. I was involved in radiation monitoring of the water course around the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant.

Chester, United Kingdom

I worked on Cheshire County Councils Eco-Audit project as part of their Local Agenda 21 sustainability programme. I carried out eco-audits all over Cheshire on local authority organisations and private businesses. The aim was to improve each organisations environmental sustainability and economic performance through procedural and practical changes. I interviewed a representative of the organisation about all aspects of their operation, which was followed by an inspection of the premises. I then produced a report highlighting any potential problems improvements I also provided a contact point and secretariat service for the project as well as monitoring the performance and effectiveness of the Eco-Audit process. I also produced promotional material and organised events, and other initiatives, to increase awareness of the project.
