I worked for large HVAC companies for the 12 years prior to 1997. I was interested in the trade. I enjoyed work related relationships with people and I enjoyed this type of work as well. I was always the type of person to strive for a certain degree of pride in my work and I have always set my goals and standards very high. I knew that if the sub-par quality that I was witnessing with these larger companies was allowing them to make ends meet and at the same time be profitable, well, I knew I needed to give it a shot for myself. In 1997 I studied hard and passed my Class D licensing exam the first time around and ventured out and so here I am. That was 18 years ago and I haven't regretted a single day of the self-employment move. I have no employees yet, never wanted one. I can control what goes on easily and while my health allows, nothing in this area will change. I'm the only one all my customers talk to and that is a confidence that has my phone ringing on its own. I am an American Standard dealer and I attend biannual marketing meetings. I used to feel so intimidated when sitting next to a business owner that ran a large growing company with many trucks on the road. Now I'm glad I didn't expand. I do top quality work and want to simply earn a respectable living. I don't want to set the world on fire with a consuming 7 day a week schedule. Money isn't everything.
