Fresenius, based in Germany, has a worldwide presence focusing on renal care, inpatient and outpatient services, hospital management and other health care facilities.I am very excited to have joined Fresenius Medical Care at this time in the development of the business. I feel that the business has a huge amount to offer the consumer. The anticipated growth in demand for these offerings in Asia result in an fabulous opportunity for Fresenius, but also a great responsibility. The compliance unit will be playing a large part in meeting this responsibility.

Our mission is to "Sell the products customers want at unbeatable prices so that they can save money and live better". This ethos permeates the company at every level and I was delighted to be sharing part of this vision. My role built emphatically on both my experiences and interests. I was responsible for developing and managing a team of system analysts, trainers and communications experts across India, China and Japan, supporting a region-wide network of in facility monitors whose roles were to inspect, train and coach compliance to both the management board and locally mandated regulatory requirements.As with all things Walmart, they were not content with merely being good enough. The goal was to offer a world leading program to ensure that their customers could continue to buy the products they want.I was proud to be able to deliver the Asia Pacific part.

Asia

Between the beginning of October 2012 and mid April 2013, I lived mainly in Yangon, Myanmar helping A&O's key relationship firm up-skill to the level that they were capable of handling international client instructions both from a systems ready perspective as well as client management. I worked closely with the regional management team investigating and advising on the opportunities and difficulties associated with establishing presence in Myanmar including budget control, regulatory issues and government liaison.My involvement in this project has given me an opportunity to be intrinsically involved with both the development of a new nation as well as being able to apply the more developed management and practice development skills from elsewhere in the region and the broader network to a nascent legal and professional service firm environment. In addition to the above, a significant part of my role was to help A&O Vietnam fully integrate into the A&O network, introducing the new team in Vietnam to the opportunities that such a broader relationship generated both in cross referral of work and function support.

I joined A&O in July 2010 as the regional head of Risk and Compliance for this law firm. This was a new role within the firm and followed a six month analysis of their legal and regulatory exposures across Asia, both on the technical legal risks as well as on the developmental risks faced within the marketplace.Working closely with the UK team as well as other support functions in the region, we built a Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance function that will ensure that the myriad of regulatory requirements faced by an organisation such as A&O are met reliably and with the minimum of impact on the efficacy of the business.I was very pleased that after two years of this work, the risk and compliance function in Asia was sufficiently efficient to be able to be moved in its entirety to the support function centre in Belfast, UK.

CPP Group Plc was a privately owned (now listed) company, that provides low cost life assistance solutions to over 12 million customers in 14 separate countries as diverse as the UK and Mexico, employing almost three thousand people to do so.Over the course of my career with CPP I was intimately involved in the generation of a year on year growth of between 12% and 48% through supporting and guiding the culture of commercialization of every opportunity. I helped the business grow from being an owner managed business valued at around USD$150m in 2002 to one went to its IPO eight years later at over USD$750m.
