The year 2020 will bring about a celebration: 35 years of my working as a professional management consultant. A number of different roles are listed below, most recent first. Implemented new business processes, new information systems and procedures in order to reduce investment in working capital by up to 25%, and to reduce customer order-handling times. Linking demand forecasting to inventory management was the key to these activities. The largest project was 80 manyears.Assisted the HR department with training of management consultants.

Computer Systems ManagerTube Investments (Now Smiths Industries) 1973 - 1979Birmingham & ChesterfieldBased at one of the steel tube and pressure vessel making operating companies (Chesterfield), was responsible for systems development and computer operations over 2 sites, employing 25 people. This included the development and implementation of a suite of production control and planning systems for steel tube and cylinder manufacture with an emphasis on supporting corporate Total Quality Management (TQM) policy.At the Group's HQ, Five Ways, in Birmingham and at several of its steel works in the West Midlands, developed several shop floor simulation models to explore effect of different factory layouts, throughputs and varying plant capacities for secondary steel tube and steel pressure vessel manufacture. Involved high pressure and temperature, tube drawing processes through dies and over mandrels.
