During the time I spent in the commissioning department at Technology Plc, I installed all kinds of software and hardware into numerous different makes & models of laptops, desktops and servers. I also acquired an in-depth understanding of the internal architecture of the IBM PC platform. Beginning May 97 I spent four months at the Norweb Call Centre in Bolton, (part of United Utilities) as part of the desktop/server support team on behalf of TPLC. My main role was to ensure the correct operation of the call centre workstations & servers. I gained first hand knowledge of the installation, maintenance and administration of NT 3.51 (workstation & server). One of the tasks I performed at Bolton that I found especially interesting was the installation and configuration of a Fax Client\Server system for the Energy & Telecommunications department.September 97 I transferred to a Northwest Water site in Warrington as part of the second line desktop support team (again part of the UU group). My main role was to manage any faults that occurred with the desktop PC’s and bring the fault to a successful conclusion. This site provided me with the opportunity to further develop my knowledge of Windows 95. I also gained knowledge of supporting PC’s in a Token Ring, TCP/IP corporate network environment. Basic knowledge of Novel 3.x was also acquired while on site.
