Patent Prosecution is the technique whereby an idea / invention is evaluated by expert technologists, ranked amongst like patents or similar technologies, evaluated in context of business needs, both current and far reaching, and finally submitted to multiple patent bodies for finalization, both domestic and foreign.Patent Prosecution at Qualcomm is extremely elaborate and encompassed most parts of the organization. A comprehensive project which started with myself, a single Qualcomm stakeholder and a sheet of paper. But make no mistake, this project was very high-profile within Qualcomm. The acceptance for failure was zero, coupled with immense pressure to successfully bring to market their innovative new technology.From a technology standpoint, the project broke down into 3 parts : * Getting the WINDOWS 32 bit Vuforia DLL's to run under Linux on AWS* Implementing an upload queue which fed the Vuforia DLL's, and could be monitored* Implementing a full-featured client-side web portal which supported the Vuforia developerAnother noteworthy aspect of the Vuforia system I designed was for the capture of device profile information. Basically, the Vuforia SDK reports various metrics of each respective device, and each device has a complementary ‘device profile’- a configuration file which is downloaded during any Vuforia-based application start-up. A Device Profile is ultimately responsible for calibrating and optimizing each device.Vuforia was deployed in the EC2 (Amazon Elastic Cloud) leveraging Rightscale's cloud management platform. Blyth software of Saxmundham, U.K., published OMNIS 7, a cross-platform rapid application development environment (RADD) for Windows, OS/2, Macintosh and Linux.I managed and in most cases implemented solutions for:* McKinsey & Company - Developed a program, PeopleNet, a custom HR application used to manage and track all Mckinsy consultants. I led a team of eight Mckinsey developers during the production phase of the application. I was based permanently in NY City for the duration of the project (one year). During this time I consulted with and was exposed to other vendors, including Sybase, Oracle and Microsoft.* Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers - Developed a custom program, code named "Waterfall", for KPCB to track CEO performance. This program ran on top of all KPCB's investments, and integrated parameters such as stock earnings during fixed times periods, product release schedules and compliance, group optimization (determining which people work best with others) and CEO output per dollar.* Kaiser Hospitals - Developed in conjunction with Apple Computer a pilot project geared at modernizing the pediatric wing at Kaiser Hospitals. Through easy-to-use input methods, doctors could realize less paperwork and more time spent with their patients.* I was also used extensively as a consultant and project manager at IBM, where I was tasked to put together a working application on top of IBM's DB2 database to pitch to NASA, and Microsoft, where I was tasked to ensure that OMNIS was in compliance with SQL Server. I also consulted to Proctor & Gamble, American Greetings, where I was tasked to create one of the first large-scale databases to handle very large media assets, TANDEM computers and Citibank, which eventually used Omnis 7 to streamline their billing process. By bringing their billing operation in-house, Citibank eventually realized savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
