A forty year "veteran" of the financial services industry Mark began his career at the Norfolk, Virginia office of Merrill-Lynch in May 1982 finding his way to the Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) part of the business in 2006 where he is a principal of Heritage Wealth Management, a fully independent RIA firm, where he also acts as Chief Investment Strategist and Senior Financial Advisor. Along with his colleagues, they are dedicated to the building of a financial advisory firm that supports its financial advisors with the same level of passion and commitment that inspires its advisors in the serving of their clients.A lifetime student of the economy and financial markets as well as history Mark has never ceased to experience an increasing level of fascination as to how those topics interact with one another and to share those insights with colleagues and clients to assist in the management of the challenges and opportunities financial markets continually offer. One of the great joys of his intellectual journey has been his ongoing discovery of others possessing insights that have the capacity to add materially to his own. Enjoying a small local reputation as "the walker" Mark has walked the streets of the South Hampton Roads area for the past 15 years often listening to audio books during walks lasting from two to as many as six hours. He has shared with those who ask, "I walk fast, and I walk slow but I always walk four miles an hour."Having listened to the entirety of Shelby Foote's Civil War trilogy "on foot" he calculates his having walked 616 miles to listen to the entirety of its 154 hours.The husband of Margie who also works at Heritage and the father of four, daughter Katherine and son's Austin, Alec and Zach Mark also follows with interest the fortunes of Virginia Tech football, Cincinnati Reds baseball and Florida Panthers ice hockey. A longtime resident of the Ghent historical area of Norfolk he has been active in Kairos prison ministry and the Episcopal church and has defined his faith as "the understanding that it is through the act of giving that we receive."
