I run the Manufacturing Engineering capability in BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, which covers a broad range of disciplines including (but certainly not limited to…) product delivery, financial management and cost control, quality & assurance, prototyping, manufacturing operations, recruitment, training, sub-contract management, procurement, SHE, and facilities management.My team produces products spanning various technical domains, including RF & Wireless, Cyber security, Comms Intelligence, high-speed digital network processing, and high-assurance network security appliances. Our products deliver generate £20M direct revenues per year, and underpin a further £100M+ for other projects across BAE Systems which rely on those products. We have a focussed and narrow customer base, generally Defence and NS groups in the UK and in selected nations around the world. Our customer base and product set mean that we are a high-mix low-volume products business; we produce up to 1000 boxes annually, spread over up to 20 different product lines. I have a team of ~35 people supporting me in this endeavour, comprising a diverse mix of Electronic Engineers, Engineering Managers, Project Managers and Technicians.

• Established, recruited-for and line-managed a 10-person team responsible for through-life engineering management and assurance of electronic products.• Designed new production processes for digital and radio products to substantially increase throughput and yield.• Designed, rolled out and championed processes for transitioning products from development to production.• Defined the requirements for, and carried out quality assurance of electronic products throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.• Senior review of regulatory compliance assessment cases, including CE marking, EMC, LVD, R&TTE/RED, RoHS, FCC.• Designed and managed the departmental adoption of processes for assuring Product Safety.

• Developed firmware for high-speed digital communications products.• Designed secure mechanical enclosures and obtained UK government accreditation.• Designed PCBs for secure data-communications hardware products.• Managed the departmental graduate induction and training program for two years, on-boarding all new graduates over that time and providing early career-management.• Planned and deployed telecommunications systems into governmental and commercial live customer environments.• Partnered with account managers in the composition and presentation of technical sales pitches of Lawful Interception products to new and existing customers, resulting in £1m+ of sales.• Defined and championed best-practice for a newly introduced departmental configuration management system.• Composed and ran customer training courses.• Provided 3rd line on-call hardware support for deployed systems over a 2yr period, providing out-of-hours site-attendance when required to rectify operational faults against a 4-hour SLA.
