Now I tell people to make things, instead of making them. I also stop my staff from chopping their hands off (not physically, but by education, and sometimes shouting), and I encourage them to wear PPE (so I don't get in trouble).I seem to spend a lot of time answering emails, on the phone, or staring at computer screens.Sometimes I run off, just so I can dust and clean a bit or mend something. I had been working for Russell as a freelance prop maker since 1998 and in 2007 he asked me to become his workshop manager. As well as prop making, my key roles were to keep the workshop stock levels to a satisfactory degree, keep tools in good working order, ensure health & safety practices adhered to, administer staff, oversee current productions & projects, and meet with clients whilst liaising with the directors.Projects have included; Mary Poppins, Billy Elliott, Death and the King's Horsemen, Dirty Dancing, The Lord Mayor's Show, 'Moments' giant chocolate box, 'Quit smoking campaign' giant cigarette butt. With clients including; The Ministry of Fun, Jane Ripley & Friends, Cameron Macintosh, Marcus / Hall props.
