Learning And Development AdvisorCornwall Council Aug 2016 - Jun 2018Truro, United KingdomI was involved in the organisation's e-Learning output, developing packages related to Safeguarding and Mental Health in the Workplace. -
Senior Warehouse AssistantSeasalt Nov 2014 - Aug 2016Redruth, United KingdomI was responsible for much of the day-to-day running of Seasalt's Online Despatch department, managing staff and liaising with colleagues throughout the company to ensure the smooth operation of this very busy department. -
Team Leader/TrainerScotcall Aug 2011 - Sep 2014Glasgow, United KingdomI was responsible for a team of twelve Telephone Agents, ensuring that they exceed targets in terms of collections and compliance (i.e. working within industry-wide and in-house ‘best practice’ guidelines). The post demanded a great deal of one-to-one and group coaching, and carries with it a considerable volume of administration work. It is essential that the latter is accurate and up-to-date, as senior managers and other departments rely on it in their daily workflows.I was latterly responsible for monitoring call quality and compliance throughout the Telephone Team.

Assistant TutorEdinburgh College Of Art Oct 2007 - Aug 2014Edinburgh, United KingdomAssistant tutor, ‘Conservation of Modern Architecture’ module. Each year, over a period of around eight weeks, I took the students through a project in which they prepared a listing proposal for a piece of twentieth-century architecture. Once their selection was approved, we begin to tackle the various stages involved in Historic Scotland’s listing procedure, all the time encouraging an appreciation of the period’s architecture and the particular problems its conservation demands. At the module’s conclusion, the students were required to submit a written report and present the results of their work to the group. I chaired this session and lead discussion on each student’s work, before formally marking each report and submitting it to the department. -
ResearcherEdinburgh College Of Art Dec 2007 - Jan 2011Edinburgh, United KingdomThis part-time position was related to Historic Scotland's Dictionary of Scottish Architects project. This endeavoured to create an online catalogue of Scottish architects and their work, detailing as closely as possible every scheme by every architectural practice based in Scotland or, if elsewhere, with Scottish roots.I was responsible for a substantial percentage of the project’s ‘Glasgow’ entries. My work was the result of desk-based research, using documentary sources from the nineteenth- and twentieth-centuries in order to build an exhaustive chronology of architectural developments in and around Glasgow. This research was conducted part-time and extramural, demanding a significant degree of self-discipline. Deadlines were set in liaison with ECA and Historic Scotland, and I was entirely responsible for ensuring that certain blocks of work (for example, ‘North Glasgow, 1890-1900’) were completed accurately and on time. -
Project ArchivistThe Glasgow School Of Art Apr 2008 - Aug 2010Glasgow, United KingdomI was responsible for sorting, cataloguing, and housing the Gillespie, Kidd, and Coia Archive, a collection of drawings, documents, photographs, and ephemera spanning the practice’s output from the 1930s until their closure in 1987.I was given a large degree of autonomy in establishing processes and the general ‘direction’ of the cataloguing. A small section of the collection had already been catalogued, primarily in readiness for the accompanying museum exhibition and publication, but the majority was unsorted. This, a great deal of time was spent preparing the material for cataloguing - the material had been assembled in a relatively disorganised mass, and it was the work of several months to examine and filter the drawings into particular projects.I helped with basic conservation of the drawings and documents, cleaning them of surface dirt and housing them to archival standards. The archive received a number of visitors, each of whom came with a particular purpose in mind. Again, an understanding of the material was beneficial in preparing and presenting it to the visitor, and it was sometimes necessary to offer a degree of interpretation depending on the viewer’s expertise - several students, for example, came from entirely non-architectural backgrounds, and wished to see drawings purely because they deemed them visually striking. Before leaving this fixed-term position, I drafted a ‘best-practice’ text for the GSA Archive Department, outlining an approach to be taken should another architectural collection require attention. -
Project ArchivistRcahms Aug 2007 - Mar 2008Edinburgh, United KingdomI was responsible for sorting, cataloguing, and housing certain projects of the Sir Basil Spence Archive, a collection of drawings, documents, photographs, and ephemera spanning the breadth of Spence’s personal and professional life.I helped with basic conservation of the drawings and documents, cleaning them of surface dirt and housing them to archival standards. The archive received a number of visitors, each of whom came with a particular purpose in mind. Research towards a major publication on Spence’s work ran alongside the cataloguing project, and it was often necessary to assemble specifically requested collections of drawings or documents at short notice.I took part in outreach work associated with the collection. For example, I was involved in an event at Gorbals Library in Glasgow, highlighting Spence’s work in the area. This was a fixed-term position.
