About Mark Urwin

Currently I am a Director in the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources responsible for leading the Competitiveness and Market Development Group in the Oil and Gas Division. The Competitiveness and Market Development Section engages with domestic and international stakeholders to identify and take advantage of opportunities to add value to Provincial resources, develop new and expand existing markets, and enhance the competitiveness of the Province. The section designs policies and approaches to the development of new markets like Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), natural gas liquids exports (ethane, propane, butane and condensate), light crude oil, and products derived from natural gas and oil.

Excited to help guide this phenomenal team! The Energy Economics and Royalties Branch implements statistical analysis as well as economic and financial modelling related to the energy sector (both domestic and international. The Branch also maintains and develops new agreements with similar agencies in other jurisdictions that facilitates collaboration on common projects and enhances an overall understanding of the different pathways being taken to transform energy systems. The Branch is also responsible for overseeing the Province’s current royalty system (in partnership with the Ministry of Finance) while finalizing the development and implementing the Province’s new royalty system. Finally, the Branch is also responsible for preparing detailed monthly and quarterly natural gas and oil royalty revenue forecasts in support of the Ministry of Finance budgeting and reporting.
