As Technology Director for the Acetyls Business within BP Petrochemicals I am responsible for managing a multi-disciplined engineering group (45 people in UK, US, China) that provides technical support to the ten Acetyls manufacturing assets and major growth projects worldwide.The group I manage is responsible for providing specialist engineering support and assurance in all areas of plant operations including plant maintenance, reliability, turnaround management and plant automation. A recent addition to the role is to manage the Continuous Improvement strategy and implementation programme for the Petrochemicals SPU.

Responsible for oversight and reporting of HSE performance across BP Petrochemicals performance unit. Follow up and ensure accurate/timely reporting of incidents, identification and communication of root causes and high value learnings for both process and behavioural safety. Implementation of cross SPU safety improvement programmes.Responsible for identifying and sharing best practice in plant operations and maintenance both internal and external to BP. Led formal benchmarking of assets performance and development of improvement programmes.

Provision of technical support, covering all of the Acetyls product lines and manufacturing assets (11 globally), identifying and then implementing opportunities to improve asset performance either by reducing the variable cost of production or debottlenecking the asset portfolio through strategic capital investment often to increase production capacity.
