With this experience, Mark is well positioned to advise and support companies and investors in a context of conflict and fragility, enabling them to operate in a conflict-sensitive way and in a way that fosters peace and stability. Mark also works with refugees and internally displaced people to help them develop economic opportunities in crisis-affected settings, supporting them to develop business plans for inclusive economic growth.Mark has over 25 years of experience on the role of business in fragile and conflict-affected settings, corporate social responsibility, socio-economic opportunity mappings, value chain analysis and development for SMEs, peace building, conflict-sensitivity, human security, ESG (environmental, social and governance) issues, and security & human rights. The main thrust of his career is making the economy more resilient and sustainable in the most complex and challenging situations. He has deep sectoral knowledge of finance, agriculture, forestry, extractives, oil and gas, renewable energy and natural resource management. Mark has worked in Africa (Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan and Tanzania), Latin America (Colombia), Middle East (Iraq, Lebanon) and Asia (Pakistan), for different corporate clients, international NGOs, think tanks, universities, and donor agencies, including the European Union, World Bank/IFC, UNDP, IOM, UNHCR, ITC, and the Governments of Sweden and the Netherlands. He also works as a Research Associate at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
