Research interns support the Critical Care Research Center staff and investigators in conducting clinical trials within Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Medicine, the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, the Trauma Program, and the Burn Center. Key duties include screening subjects, consenting and enrolling patients, data collection, chart abstraction, and abstract/manuscript preparation. Interns also have the opportunity to participate in unique educational experiences which in the past have included shadowing, cadaver and sim labs, and CPR training.

Worked on a project investigating the effects that caffeine and/or ethanol have on the degradation of the "date-rape" drug roofies by the liver enzyme Cyp3A4.Key duties included designing the experiment, performing the reaction, collecting the data, and then subsequent analysis. Techniques used for this study included UV absorption, high performance liquid chromatography, and NMR. The ability to communicate as a scientist was stressed heavily, as several oral presentations and several written drafts of our findings were required. The culmination of this project was an honors thesis in chemistry.

Chiropractic assistants aided the chiropractors in care of the patients.Key duties included directing patients back to the examination rooms, recording vitals, collecting patient histories, data entry, and beginning the patients' treatments. These treatments included electric stimulation, ultrasound, and cold laser therapy.In addition, I was charged with organizing the office’s outcome assessment gathering system and aiding in the transition from paper records to an electronic health record system.
