Whilst working with Selecta as an external resource, an attractive offer to start up a new division within the business came along of which I was to head. I started at Selecta Solar as the Operations Manager with my immediate objective to source solar products from the far east and Europe, import and market within the UK. Starting with solar PV panels, these were imported from China and sold / distributed to Solar PV Installers throughout the UK. Inverters and full solar PV kits were sourced by myself with marketing strategies and plans created and implemented. I achieved full MCS Certification for the business within a two week timescale, allowing installation of solar PV to domestic and commercial premises. I was responsible for creating marketing materials, adverts, press releases and literature for the solar division. From July 2011 to July 2012 the division went from zero to a turnover of £1.8m under my management.

An opportunity to set up as a Quality / Environmental / Health & Safety Consultant came about at the end of 2006. With a contact within the field, a contract with a large multi site UK based engineering business was achieved. Business progression was steady, with a number of SME’s attaining my services.Working with a number of SME’s within the UK, aiding them to maintain or implement systems, standards and legal compliance within Quality, Environment and Health & Safety. During that time I worked upon CDM Sites as a Health & Safety Auditor to Clients, CDM Co-ordinators, Principal Contractors and Contractors requirements.Clients included working within engineering, customer based site work, plastic extrusion, manufacturing, specialist glass manufacture, warehousing, distribution and transport based business environments. Selecta Systems, my previous employer, continued to employ me as an external resource.Projects included system implementation, development and maintenance to ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO18001 requirements. These projects included key operations, to name a few:• Development of system / policy manuals and continued auditing of processes and procedures• Continual Improvement Programmes• Aspect Assessments for Environmental Impact• Risk Assessments, Manual Handling Assessments and COSHH Assessments• Fire Assessment Surveys• Accident / Incident Investigations• Training

Having secured employment with a UPVC Extrusion and Distribution Company in Birmingham in September 1993, where I was based in various locations within the UK, my main responsibility was rectifying customer product concerns. Having continued that role for 3 years, I moved internally in to the warehouse where I was customer order picking supervisor. Continued progression saw me employed within the Trade Counter dealing with daily customer order requirements, handling cash and order processing. An opportunity arose within the business to assist in running the Pneumatic Tools division of which I applied for and was duly accepted. Within this area I was in charge of customer sales and invoicing, stock control and purchases, including importation of stock from the far east. This role continued until the Pneumatic Tools division was sold. I then became Purchasing / Stock Control Assistant in early 1999. There was an opportunity for further career development, when I was approached to take the position of Health & Safety Manager for the business in early 2000. The role of Quality Manager was offered to myself at the end of 2001 to combine with my current Health & Safety position. The position of Health & Safety / Quality Manager was held until leaving the business in December 2006 to further my career as a Health & Safety / Quality Consultant. During the time I was employed as Health & Safety / Quality Manager, I successfully worked through the transition of BS5750 to ISO9000 and helped the business successfully achieve product Kitemarking, helping the business maintain certification and transferring the QMS in to Flowcharted Processes. I was responsible for the writing, implementation and management of the Health and Safety Management System.
