As a former C-suite executive and general counsel with 30+ years of experience in a variety of legal, retail and manufacturing environments, my legal experience includes corporate governance, litigation management, security offerings, corporate financing transactions, regulatory compliance, M&A, franchise transactions, corporate restructurings and human resources matters. Over the last few years, I have focused on becoming a first-class mediator. I have completed over 150 hours of self-study and over 100 hours of formal mediation training which includes Basic Mediation Training, The ABA Advanced Mediation & Advocacy Skills Institute, and the American Institute of Mediation course on Mediating Commercial and Litigated Cases. I have participated in over 50 mediations as a mediator, party participant or as co-mediator and have been mentored by some of the best, leading mediators in DFW.As a General Counsel, including for a Fortune 500 retailer, I built strong and effective legal and compliance teams. This required that I be actively involved in a wide variety of litigation matters including personal injury, product liability, employment, securities, commercial and contract matters. I have also managed complex Attorneys General, SEC and FTC regulatory inquiries and investigations. I worked closely with internal company personnel, C-Suite Executives, insurance company representatives and a wide variety of outside litigation counsel to (i) review claims (ii) develop litigation plans, and (iii) develop and execute settlement strategies. My involvement was hands-on, in-depth and frequently included (i) selecting trial and appellate counsel, (ii) reviewing pleadings, motions, press releases and public statements, (iii) implementing discovery plans, (iii) preparing parties for and attending depositions, (iv) devising settlement strategies and (v) attending mediations, hearings, trials and appellate proceedings.All of these skills help me provide and extremely effective mediation experience. They allow me to quickly grasp the nuances of litigation and conflict. They help me understand the risks and costs, both tangible and intangible, of getting sucked into the whirlpool of dispute. And because I work daily with people and business leaders most effected by the litigation quagmire, I am adept at helping parties and their counsel find and implement settlement strategies when settling is their best alternative.
